Accommodations

Lorem Ipsum

We're hoping everyone will stay with us at the Pohailani development in the Kahana neighborhood of West Maui. This development was one of the earliest time shares on the island, and comprises beach-front studios and 2 bedroom garden bungalows. The bungalows encircle 8 acres of lawns, gardens, pools, tennis courts and grill areas.

Pohailani units are not under central management and can be reserved individually from owners. Please see pictures and links below. Because of this, some typical hotel amenities are not provided such as maid or room service. However, Kahana has other hotels and resorts, many of which are within walking distance or a short drive from the Pohailani. For guests who want a full-service experience we recommend The Ritz Carlton at Kapalua, or the Kapalua Villas.

Please feel free to email us with any questions regarding accommodations.

Monday 7/25

>>Sunrise 5:58 am

>>Turtle Snorkel :: 9-11 am (arrive early if you want to get in the water)

Olowalu Beach

Pull off just before mile marker 14 across from the blue "Emergency Call Box" on the west bound side of Highway 30.

Join us for a snorkel tour with our family friend and Naturalist Mel Rice of the Ocean Project - a non-profit foundation dedicated to teaching young people about the marine ecosystem.  The Allreds met Mel and his parner, CT, on a whale watch when Adrien was 8 and have relied on them ever since as close friends and the best guides to Maui's greatest treasures.  Check out their website for other programs, especially recommended for families with young kids.

Bring: bathing suit, beach towels, sunscreen, snacks and water.  Feel free to bring snorkel gear if you have it - gear will be provided in variety of sizes if you don't.

>>Lunch at Kimos :: 12pm-ish
Kimo's in Lahaina

Have a Mai Tai and a burger with us at Kimo's - our favorite ocean side bar in Lahaina

>>Sunset :: 7:08 pm

Tuesday 7/26

>>Sunrise :: 5:59 am

>>Scenic drive :: 8:00 am
Depart from the Pohailani

Join us in driving (or scootering!) on the back roads of the island.  We will start at the Pohailani at 8am and drive north around the coast of Puu Kukui, Maui's western volcano.  We will stop at the picturesque town of Kahakuloa where local Julia makes her famous banana bread from her own trees.  Also usually a food truck parked on the cliff just before the town serves up tasty coconut shrimp.

Feel free to break off from the group to visit any of the sites along the way - there are beautiful hiking trails and some local art galleries.

The first leg of our tour ends in Kahului where you can stop for any essentials you may need at Costco.

Bring: Vehicle of choice, sunscreen, water

>>LUNCH :: 12:00 PM ish
Hali'imaile General Store or Kula Lodge

>>Scenic Drive continued :: 1:00 pm-ish
Destination of Choice.

As we continue our drive in the afternoon there are a few destinations you may want to aim towards.

Option 1 is to drive up to the summit of Haleakala, Maui's large Volcano.  Here you can learn about the native Hawaiian ecosystem at the ranger's station, view the islands from 10,000 feet and go on a variety of hikes around and into the crater.  The Halemau'u Trailhead especially provides an easy walk along the crater ridge with beautiful views before descending into the crater.

Option 2 Drive back to the north coast and drive towards Hana a short distance into the rain forest.  You can visit the Bamboo forest or Na'ili'ili-haele Stream and Waterfall area.  The bamboo forest is right on the road and to find the Na'ili-ili-haele stream trail head stop by the stand of rainbow eucalyptus trees (on the left) and jump the cow fence on the right and hike up into the rain forest.

>>Sunset :: 7:08 pm

Wednesday 7/27

>>Relax for goodness sake!

>>Luau :: 6:00 pm
Beach House Lawn at the Ritz Carlton

The beach house lawn is about 10 minute walk downhill from the front desk.  Free day parking is available in the Ritz lots (just make sure to get a validated ticket from the bellboy) - or you can park closer at the lot for DT Fleming Beach- we will be at the "burger shack" labeled on google maps.

Free shuttles are also provided for guests who have difficulty walking, just ask at the front desk.

>>Sunset :: 7:08 pm

Thursday 7/28

>>Sunrise :: 5:59 am

>>You Do you! :: all day

Maybe you walk to the ocean for the morning turtles, take a little salt water bath, have some juice and coffee, have some mango schnecken.

Perhaps in Lahaina, later, you have an ice cream under the banyan tree on Front St, have some lunch at aloha mixed plate, or some kaiten sushi at Genki.  After lunch you may find yourself shopping, or touring around Lahaina's historic colonial monuments and local history.

Or maybe you go golfing at Kapalua or hire a boat out of Maalaea harbor to Molokini crater, or you know - whatever!
